A little help please.
Have any of my North American friends ever bought anything from Amazon.co.UK?

There is a new CD set out that I'd like to get, but it is only available from the UK amazon. I was wondering if anyone here in North America had ever bought something from them to find out how long it took and was there a lot added for shipping, etc. Would it be cheaper to ask HMV to order it or would t be better for me to order directly from them. That sort of stuff.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Ta Ta for now.

Yes! They're really quick for an overseas shipment -- none of this four weeks business. I think when I ordered my last book from them it took about eight or ten days to reach me. Their books are discounted at a similar rate as the North American Amazon shops are, so I usually find that any extra shipping cost is covered by that. And looking at their shipping costs listed on the UK website, they charge 0.99 per CD plus 2.09 per delivery for airmail -- pounds, of course, which works out to roughly three pounds or six dollars. That's excellent.

Add that to your converted base CD price, and I bet you it matches HMV's quoted price. And I've had horrible experiences with HMV special ordering things for me, especially imports; they're really pricey, sometimes don't arrive at all and I'm not called to be told that the order has been cancelled, and so forth.

I say go for it. I've had excellent experiences with Amazon.co.uk.

I ordered a book from them 10-years back or so. IIRC, I didn't have a very long wait and the cost with shipping was very reasonable. Of course, things may have changed in this post-911 world, but I would hope not.

Ordered from them several times but usually to send a gift to friends in the UK...
They do ship fairly quickly though and I have known letters to get from there to here in less than 2 days...

One warning would be if you are ever going to buy DVDs (as opposed to CDs) you will want to be certain you have a DVD player that will play out of region discs (oddly, it is usually the dirt cheap ones that do).
